Refused the waters that flow gently

I went to sleep with a heavy heart when I heard about the rainfall and landslide in Kerala and Karnataka,. When I woke up on 12th, the Lord showed the following verse.

Isa 8:6-8  “Because this people has refused the waters of Shiloah that flow gently, and rejoice over Rezin and the son of Remaliah,  therefore, behold, the Lord is bringing up against them the waters of the River, mighty and many, the king of Assyria and all his glory. And it will rise over all its channels and go over all its banks, and it will sweep on into Judah, it will overflow and pass on, reaching even to the neck, and its outspread wings will fill the breadth of your land, O Immanuel.” 

By the “Waters of Shiloah that flow gently”, the Lord meant the Holy Spirit . John 7:37-39

Rejoicing over Rezin = Rejoicing over the spiritual leaders like Pope, bishops, pastors, elders, priests etc. who rule over them like kings.

The waters of the river, mighty and many = Water force  and the mighty and many leaders who are ruling over  them.

Political power and other powers who are suppressing them. They are in all their glory without any opposition now. It is rising over all her channels. Its force will surpass all their institutional forces. It will overrule them. There will be nobody to save them.

What the Lord wants of you, Church in  India, listen! Come out of the hierarchical set up, divide yourself into small groups of 10 where believers will be led by the Holy Spirit (Rom 8:14, 1 Jn 2:27, Jn 15:8) with Jesus inside. The Lord introduced the Troop Church (in the house Church pattern but not the  house Church or prayer cell  of the hierarchical Church the intention of which is the expansion of the main institutional Church itself) years ago. There every believer is a priest, ambassador, prophet in Christ.

Church in India, let us repent for the loss we have incurred to this nation for the past 2000 years. The light we received from our Lord was not handed over to others. So darkness rules over the nation. This is high time we ask pardon from the Lord and turn to Him asking His counsel for rectification.

Vice President Mike Pence Is Criticized for Saying He Prays for His Critics

Vice President Mike Pence, who has been routinely criticized for his faith, said he handles such attacks by praying for his critics—which garnered him a few more.

"No. 1 is, spend more time on your knees than on the internet," Pence said during an Aug. 6 Q & A session with Michael Farris, president and CEO of Alliance Defending Freedom. The gathering included ADF staff.

The vice president went on to talk about the power of forgiveness.

"As a Christian believer, we’re charged to pray for our loved ones but also pray for our enemies,” Pence said.

“You have lots of opportunities in politics to do that," he said. "But I would say that forgiveness is a great gift, and my wife and I literally try to work through forgiving people who might speak woefully against us or might mischaracterize who we are and what our family’s all about,” he said.

Since taking office Pence has been targeted numerous times for his biblical approach to living.

As covered by Christian Headlines early in the Trump administration, the vice president was ripped on social media for saying he protects his marriage by avoiding situations where he is alone with a woman.

Earlier this year, 2020 Democrat presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg, who served as mayor of South Bend, Indiana while Pence was governor of the state, challenged the vice president’s biblical view of marriage and mocking his Christian faith, Christian Headlines previously reported.

And in January, Pence’s wife, Karen, was criticized for taking a teaching job at a Christian school in Virginia that has a “moral purity” policy that prohibits LGBT students and faculty.

During his talk with ADF, Pence admitted he and his wife were taken aback by the reaction to her job.

“We honestly didn’t see that one coming,” the vice president said. “Our kids went to the school when I was in Congress.”

Not long after the conversation with ADF, Twitter users began mocking Pence’s comment on prayer, some twisting the intent of spending “more time on your knees.” Comments quickly turned sexual, including an obscene cartoon of Pence with President Trump, and a retort by Monica Lewinsky, the intern who had an affair with President Bill Clinton while he was in office. Others made reference to the NFL players’ protest of taking a knee during the national anthem.

Author Sasha Strachan used the NFL controversy as a backdrop to challenge Pence’s faith and call the president racist.

Another user, calling himself the Tattooed Theologian, also took a swipe at Pence’s faith and integrity, saying: “On your knees...That sounds pretty authoritarian to me. I don't have to be on my knees to pray.

“@VP should spend some time reading the #Gospels. If he did, he wouldn't be supporting @realDonaldTrump.”

Comedian and atheist Paula Poundstone dismissed praying outright saying, “I will spend no time on my knees.”

During his conversation with ADF, Pence said that when he’s in the midst of criticism he tries “just focusing on the cause.”

“I really do think it's important that we stay focused on things that are more important than ourselves, that are more important than any intermittent controversy that might arise,” he told Farris. “And for me, that's about being a part of an administration, standing next to a president that's rebuilding our military, who's revived our economy, who's appointing a historic number of conservatives to our federal courts, who's standing, as I said, for our first freedom, for religious liberty, for the right to life. I get up every day and I just... I feel incredibly blessed to be a small part of an administration that is making America great again. So focus on the positive.”

Ironically, a portion of the discussion at the ADF event also included the topic of religious liberty and free speech, especially on America’s colleges and universities.

“Whenever I was governor or vice president... I see somebody waving an unflattering sign, or we... Some people shouting something out. I always look at my kids and I say, ‘That's what freedom looks like.’
“That's what freedom sounds like, right? And the ability to disagree, the ability to be critical of people that are in public life, that's at the very center of what the people that founded this country had in mind and has been preserved through the generations. And we have to make sure it's preserved on the campuses of America.”

16 Percent of Christians Think the Church Should Apologize for America's Racist Past

According to a new study undertaken by Barna research group, just a tiny fraction of the American church feels obliged to repent of the country’s racist past.

In Barna’s latest publication entitled, “Where Do We Go from Here?,” just over 1,500 practicing Christians were asked what they believe should be done to make amends for the decades of racist history that plagued the United States.

Respondents were presented with several different answers to choose from, including nothing, "repair the damage, "repent," "pursue restitution," "lament," and "don't know." Shockingly, just 16 percent of American Christians asserted that the Church needed to repent for America's racist history of slavery and segregation.

Among African-American participants, the percentage of those who believe repentance to be the way forward was at 24 percent, whereas among the white respondents it plummeted to just 13 percent.

Interestingly, some 26 percent of all respondents indicated they "don't know" when asked about what the church’s response should be to historical racism, perhaps indicating a lack of insight or understanding on the issue.

"This could represent confusion over the specific options provided, which range from the symbolic to the material, or it could simply be a way of saying respondents are unsure what should — or even what can — be done by churches to help with racial reconciliation," Barna noted.

In light of the survey’s results, well-known left-leaning Christian leader, Jim Wallis told the Christian Post that “until the Church, notably the white Church, acknowledges its history and complicity with racism, we cannot move towards healing.”

Often, white Christians “refuse to recognize that racism is more than a problem from the past,” Wallis added, before noting that “until the operative word in 'white Christian' is Christian, we won’t move towards a place of healing.”

Wallis insisted that an active repentance “for the sin of racism” will “bring congregations together."

Was There A Way For The Church To Avoid The Culture Wars?

Was there a different course the Church in America could have taken to avoid the culture wars? A way to focus on the gospel and transcend controversial moral and political issues? Personally, I would much rather write about Torah than about Trump, about Christ than about culture, about the Holy Spirit than about homosexuality.

Is it possible that, as followers of Jesus, we could have bypassed today's divisive social issues and simply concentrated on the gospel? Or is this making a false dichotomy between gospel and culture?

Without a doubt, our voice should be loudest and clearest when it comes to preaching Jesus as Savior and Lord. Our witness should be strongest when it comes to doing good and demonstrating our faith by our works.

But does that mean that we cannot be good witnesses while standing for justice and righteousness and equity?

Show Me The Scripture Where We're Not Supposed to Be Helping Save Lives

Certainly, we must transcend partisan politics.

We cannot be pawns of a program or a party. We are God's servants, with ultimate allegiance to Him, and all other allegiances must be secondary to that.

But does that mean that we remain silent when lives are being destroyed? That we simply pray when injustice takes place in front of our eyes? That we take no concrete steps to stop the concerted ideological attack against the younger generation?

To be totally candid, I have no problem dealing with controversy. I'm the son of a New York City, Jewish lawyer, and debating is in my blood. And as a Jewish follower of Jesus, I've known controversy since the first days of coming to faith in late 1971.

But I take no joy in being called a homophobe and bigot. I would rather be associated with Jesus than with a political position (as in, I oppose same-sex "marriage"). And I want to be known as a Bible teacher infinitely more than I want to be known as a Trump voter.

At the same time, I see no way that we, as disciples of Jesus, could have avoided -- or should avoid -- the culture wars.

After all, the culture wars include the slaughter of the unborn, better known as abortion.

Can anyone really give me Scripture that calls us not to get involved in the saving of innocent lives?

Can anyone give me verses from the New Testament that negate these from Proverbs? "Rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter. If you say, 'Behold, we did not know this,' does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who keeps watch over your soul know it, and will he not repay man according to his work?'" (Proverbs 24:11-12)

I've asked this question countless times, but it bears repeating: How do we look at Christians in pre-Civil War America who did nothing to oppose the institution of slavery? Worse still, how we do view those who participated in slavery, even if it was something they grew up and that was normal to them? And what about those who supported segregation as Christian leaders?

Do we say, "Well, as long as they preached Jesus, that's what matters. No reason for them to get hands their soiled with the culture wars?"

I Could Do No Other

Again, to be totally candid, doing research for my first book on LGBT issues, A Queer Thing Happened to America, was difficult and painful. Much of the reading was dark, and it was a completely different world for me, especially when compared to writing a commentary on a book of the Bible or writing an inspirational book on revival.

But I could do no other.

Fifteen years ago, it was already clear to me that LGBT activism was the principle threat to our freedoms of conscience, speech, and religion.

Fifteen years ago, when I was first called to address these issues, it was already clear that an aggressive gay curriculum was flooding our schools.

Do we sit back idly when marriage is redefined? When male-female distinctives are being attacked? When our kids and grandkids come home from school in tears over the latest assault on their faith?

I hope all of us would agree that, if we were aware children were being sex-trafficked in our neighborhood, we would work together to combat it.

Why, then, should we shrink back from doing what is right if it means coming into conflict with the larger culture? Why, then, should we only stand for righteousness when there is societal consensus on the issue?

When the early Christians rescued abandon babies, they had to defy the authorities. But they did it because it was right, and as followers of Jesus, we are called to do what is right. And doing what is right means opposing what is wrong.

When it comes to our political involvement, I don't plan to endorse a candidate again, having done so only once. And it's not because of second thoughts on that candidate, Senator Ted Cruz. I'd love to see him as our president one day.

But for me, as a leader in the Body, my greatest calling is to be a voice. And the moment I endorsed Senator Cruz, people heard my voice in that context. Everything was now filtered.

Let Us Be Jesus to the Culture

Does that mean that I keep my voting habits private? One of my colleagues, born in Europe, believes that's the wisest course of action. And I respect his views.

But our political leaders are supposed to carry out the will of the voters, which means that there is constant intersection between the culture, politics, and the gospel. And they often comment on the culture, which calls for our engagement.

Again, we must transcend partisan politics, and our focus must be on issues more than personalities and on the gospel more than culture.

But we deceive ourselves if we think that, in a country like America, we can just "stick to the gospel" without confronting the culture. Following Jesus closely will inevitably result in colliding with controversy.

Let us do our best, then, to do so with the love of God, with the truth of the gospel, and with the fullness of the Spirit.

In short, let us be Jesus to our society. We can't go wrong with that.
