In Troop Church, we prayed for Bro. Stanley who because of his wrong linkages with drug addict friends landed up in jail. Out of nowhere, an advocate came up and bailed him out to return to his home with involvement of meagre amount of money. As he is from a poor background and has no support other than his mother, this bailing him out from the police is more than a miracle. All glory to Lord Jesus

Joseph recognised his brothers when they came to Egypt to secure some provisions for themselves and their families .But he did not reveal his identity. Before proceeding to reveal His true identity, he formed and exercised a well laid out plan. While doing so, he showered his generosity upon his brothers by providing them with enough food and secretly returned their money too! But he acted sternly and authoritatively with them. He set a trap for them so that they would-----

1) Bring Benjamin along with them during their next visit;

2) Reveal by their reaction whether they were genuinely concerned about their youngest brother having betrayed their elder brother, leaving him to suffer and die.He was ascertaining Benjamin's security as he had every reason to doubt that out of jealousy they might harm Benjamin too as he was his father's beloved child.

This shows that Joseph was sensible and exceptionally intelligent besides his divine attributes which allowed him to interpret dreams. He did not get excited (out of joy on seeing his kins) or rebellious (because of the way his brothers had left him in the ‘mouth of death’) on seeing them.

Joseph was overwhelmingly generous with his brothers. But he patiently waited till he had got the assurance that his brothers had transformed and realised their fault. That is why, even on seeing his brother Benjamin (Genesis 43:29), he controlled himself with great difficulty. He wept secretly, giving vent to his emotions but did not disclose his identity. He served them a hearty meal, sending portions from his own table. Joseph made a well laid out plan to test his brother's reaction towards Benjamin. He directed his manager to put his silver cup in the mouth of Benjamin's sack along with the corn money.

Joseph intended to accuse only Benjamin while setting his other brothers free. That is why he put the Silver cup in Benjamin's sack mouth.(Genesis 44:2) .

The silver cup was found in Benjamin's sack (Genesis 44:12). Joseph tested his brothers by making Benjamin guilty and penalizing him with servitude while releasing the rest of them. In such a grave situation, his brothers would have supported Benjamin only if they were genuinely concerned about him. Otherwise, they could have conveniently escaped as they had bountiful provisions          (Genesis 44:33).

When Judah offered himself as a bondman to Joseph in place of Benjamin and pleaded to release Benjamin permitting him to go with his brothers, Joseph got the assurance that his brothers had realised their fault and no longer were jealous of Benjamin. It was then that he proceeded to reveal his identity.

Similarly, God knows that we are guilty and after pardoning us He seeks assurance that we will be faithful to Him. He wants to ascertain that we realize the worth of the salvation He won for us by the sacrificial death of His Son.

If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, [a]how can he love God whom he has not seen? And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also. (1 John 4:20-21)

When we are in trouble, we have three ways of finding a way out. Firstly, we can rely on our own efforts and abilities to work out a solution. These, of course, are very limited. Secondly, we can choose to depend on human help e.g. friends, relatives, counsellors etc. Their scope is again limited and there is no guarantee of a genuine interest in our matter or a concerned ear. But if we simply forego these two sources and cry to the Lord seeking His help, He always answers and comes to our rescue. He is just a prayer away!

(Psalm 6:9, Psalm 18:6)

When our prayers are answered, it is a reward of our faith. So, we have every reason not only to revere our Heavenly Father but also to love Him for His mercies and compassions.
